We have not had heat in our house since Sunday night. Today is Wednesday. And we just found out they are not coming to fix it until tomorrow. Or so they say.
For those of you who remember, we were without AC multiple times this summer. Interestingly enough, we purchased a home warranty through Old Republic when we bought this house last February. We have had service technicians out to repair the HVAC at least 8 times, complete with a $75 service charge for each visit. In addition, we have had to pay $150 to have random parts and pieces carried away so that they could be replaced.
When speaking with the home warranty customer service yesterday, they informed me that even though we have had numerous issues and problems, there was no need to install a new unit.
Really.
I am beginning to question if a home warranty is even worth the money. I have been mad. Upset. On the phone for HOURS trying to get someone to come out and fix the heat. Frustrated beyond imagination.
Then I started thinking about all the things we have to be thankful for. Ashlyn has a wonderful (& warm) home where she gets to hang out during the day while we are at work (thanks, Stephanie & Daniel). Christopher's parents are letting us stay at their lake condo where we have cranked the heat up to about 82 (just kidding, Heath, your bill won't be that high). We have plenty of food. Warm clothes. Health. Friends and family who have offered to let us stay with them. Eternal hope in Christ.
It's all about perspective. Part of me feels like this horrible injustice has been committed against me because we have not had heat in our house for the last 3 days. Then I think about all the millions of people in the world who went to sleep last night hungry...cold...alone...scared.
We are so truly blessed. I hope we all can remember all of the things in our life we have to be thankful for.
