Tablecloths for Curtains

Ok, I really do love Target.  They always have the cutest stuff.  I saw these tablecloths there on Saturday and thought how cute they would look as curtains for our dining room.

This was as super easy project.  I love that it involved absolutely no sewing, not even any stitch witch pretend "sewing." It was as simple as ironing both of the tablecloths to smooth out the wrinkles and folding about ten inches underneath on one side (60 inches was just a tad too wide, but the length was perfect).

I used the white curtains we already had hanging as the "liner" and just clipped the new tablecloths right over them.  It adds a little "spring" to our dining room which Christopher and I both really liked.

Here is an example of the clips I used to hang the curtains with.  These are so easy and just clip right on to the fabric and then you can slide the rings onto the curtain rod.

Moral of the story - you can find cute fabrics in all sorts of places and don't necessarily have to use them for their intended purpose :)

OMG!!! I just ordered four of those table cloths on Thursday to use in my kitchen as curtains. I'm so glad to see how great they look used that way! Now I'm even more anxious for mine to arrive.

I have the quilt in that pattern, I got it on clearance and I'm really bummed that it shrank quite a bit when I washed it. Is shrank even a word, it looks funny typed.

Autum - you will have to send me a picture once you get the ones up in your kitchen! I know they will look great. Such a fun print! Can't wait to see!!

I don't really understand how they're staying up there? Safety pins? I hope you check this old post to help!! I have this same quilt on my bed and I would LOVE coordinating curtains in my bedroom! And I just saw this tablecloth last weekend, so I know they still have them!

Suzanne said...

Me too, I love them! But I don't get how you clipped them on? You didn't put any holes in them? I would love to use this idea, thank you!

Kassie said...

yeah i'm in LOVE with this idea! how DID you hang those? and.. where can i get those tablecloths now? does Target still carry them!? GREAT JOB!

Anne said...

they are actually hanging with curtain ring clips. you can buy them in the same section as you would find curtain rods. they come in packs of seven so you need one pack per panel. clip the rings on the panel and then slide it on the rod, super simple. hope that helps! :)

Anne - Beautiful and so clever. Just found your blog from Pinterest. Thanks for the tip on the curtain ring clips. Such a great idea!

So did you just poke the clips through the tablecloth in order to hang it? I really love this idea!

Hi, this is an amazing idea just wondering what is the name of the paint color on the wall!?

Anne said...

The paint color is Dark Ash by Behr. You can see more of it here - http://christopherandanne.blogspot.com/2011/06/dining-room-changes-possible-pregnancy.html

Hope that helps!

Love this! Just bought some tablecloths (on clearance!) so I can try this out. One question though. How did you keep the extra 10 inches folded under?

Anne @ Hello Newman's said...

Jessmc - I just folded and ironed the little bit of extra fabric under - the clips help hold it. It's not perfect :) but that worked for me! Hope that helps.

Jacki said...

Where did you find your curtain rod? I've been looking for one that long and haven't been able to find one!

Anne @ Hello Newman's said...

The previous owners left the curtain rod when we purchased the house so I am not sure where it was from. One idea for a long rod would be to use PVC pipe and spray paint it. You could always buy an short inexpensive rod for the end pieces. We used it for our kitchen - you can see it here:

Does target still have the same table cloth print?

Señora Leopard said...

Not sure if Target has the same colors, but they have the same print. What I saw online was called "Grass," but it looked more beige and mustard than grey and mustard colors.

Kylie Maynard said...

Did you need two table cloths or just one?

Anne @ Hello Newmans said...

Hi, Kylie. I used one tablecloth for each side (2 total). Thanks!

Love this post! We'r redecorating our kitchen right now with grays and yellows and a little bit of smoky blue. I love the curtains, but can't seem to find them at target.com. Would you be able to post a link to them or any tips on how to find them? Thanks!

Anne @ Hello Newmans said...

Thanks so much. I bought these about a year and a half ago at Target (here in South Carolina). I have not seen this same print in the stores for a while. You could try ebay? Maybe they have some new ones out now too at the store you could check out. Good luck!

I have used bedsheets before...but the table cloths may be less expensive! I also recently unclipped the slats and folded bedsheets like she did here and clipped them to the hardware!!! WE are so smart!

This is really a wonderful idea to make your old dining tablecloths to windows curtains that you were not using from a long time. I just love your way how you turn it.

Oh my gosh, this is brilliant! I have to look for those curtain rings! I'm a total cheapskate and can't handle how much curtains cost.

Thanks for a great post!
