A New Project: In-Laws Lake Condo

Let me start by saying that my mother in law is amazing.  She truly is one of the nicest people you will ever meet, and I am so blessed to have her in my life.

They purchased a condo at the lake last year - and it is in need of a little updating.  Christopher's mom has given us free reign to make some changes in the kitchen/dining area (I am not sure if his dad knows this yet, haha).  Right now, I am thinking about a new floor, painted cabinets, and possibly trying out Rustoleum's countertop paint.

We already removed a few cabinets for their Christmas present last year to go from this...

to this...

I am always open to any ideas and suggestions...super excited to get started on this little project :)

Are you on Pinterest yet? The idea is that it's a virtual pinboard, and you can view/follow others' boards. I'm going to go ahead and send you an invite. You are going to be addicted - and you will find TONS of great ideas for this space!!

Well paint can go a long way with kitchen cabinets. If you don't have a ton of storage needs why not remove the upper cabinet doors and paint a bold colour inside. It's always a great way to draw attention away from other things you don't like and highlight some great dishes.

What about putting a fun backsplash on the wall behind the counter? Its not a lot of space so it might not be too expensive but would look great!

I wld def paint the cabinents- it's cheap and really "in" right now. Also, crown molding and bead board can go a long way, and isn't that expensive either. Perhaps even do something with the doors (hiding the washer/dryer?) in the back of the kitchen... hmmm! Lots of potential and so much fun ahead of you!

That is already so much better!! That will be such a fun project...I'm definitely on board with the painting the cabinets...and as long as the floor is in good shape, I would just go for some awesome rugs (c: hehehe, but that is just my rug obsession talking (c:

What are you doing with the can light where the cabinet used to be? I did the same thing to my kitchen- removed a bank of cabinets and really opened up the kitchen. However, I can't reattach the can light cover, and they only make round ones anymore, the guy at Home Depot said that my best bet was to double side tape the cover over the light opening. Any suggestions?

Hi, Heather. We used a product called Self Adhesive Drywall Patch (it also says Wall Span on the package) from Home Depot or Lowes . It basically covers up holes in sheetrock (we discovered it when knocking a hole through our ceiling moving a couch upstairs). You put it on like a patch, and then can actually paint over it. We used a little popcorn ceiling paint to cover it up. You can't even really tell once you paint over it. Hope that helps!!!!
