We bought this little shelf from Target about 7 years ago (a few months before we got married). It somehow made it through 5 moves without falling apart.
For the past several months, it has been taking up a wall in our master bedroom...I just could not figure out what else to do with it. I had a little motivation to start working on a few master bedroom projects over the weekend since Ash was in TN with my parents.
So I decided to make a few updates.
Christopher begged me not to paint it. His words were, "Once you paint it, you will never have that smooth wood finish again." Oh, yeah...that smooth plastic-y laminate finish that you get on a $39 piece from Target. I think I'll survive.
2 coats of primer and 2 coats of paint later (I just mixed a few colors together that we had in our paint cabinet).
And the finished result after adding some desperately needed updated pictures and a few accessories from Marshall's and Pier One. I like it so much better now. And my husband admitted I was right. Don't you love when that happens???????

I love the color! You ARE right, it looks so much better! Great idea to change the picture frames as well. Don't you wish husbands would just learn that we're always right? :)
What an incredible change! I love it white - you did a great job. Also, where did you find the little turquoise laquer box on the bottom shelf??? What a pretty color!
Isn't it amazing what a little paint can do. I love that box at the bottom. It all looks beautiful and fresh.
I love it!! I also just wanted to let you know that I am going to be using your tablecloth curtain idea in my guest bedroom. Thanks for the inspiration, Anne!
