This is what happened. I woke up Friday morning and had 2 thoughts:
1. "I don't have enough room on our dining room gallery wall to add new photos of Chase when he is born."
2. "I think higher molding in the dining room would look nice."
My poor husband. I told him Friday morning that I thought we should make a few changes. Our neighbor stopped by Friday night, and I am sure she was wondering why we were tearing down perfectly good molding.
I will call this a "pregnancy induced hormonal spur of the moment" decision. Here is the dining room before.

We put a 3" picture frame shelf all the way around the room and now there is extra space to add more pictures when the little guy arrives. This project made me feel a little crazy because I did not think through it at all when I started ripping stuff off the walls. But I love the way it turned out :)

If *that* is what your hormones induce, then you should DEFINITELY keep them around! It's mah-velous, dah-ling...It looks so great, I think it was a stroke of genius. And yay, more room for baby Chase!!!

I love it! But I'm cracking up that you are redoing your dining room right before giving birth! Ha! I love how it turned out- and the pops of yellow are so fun!
You are nuts. I like the dining room in the before picture and even if you like it better in the after picture not sure it is so different as to warrant all that work.
In any event the dining room is gorgeous. I really like the grey and yellow together. I like that you have all those pictures up. It adds a real personal touch to the place and you did a great job of organizing it. So beautiful....really!

Eileen - the wall paint color is called Dark Ash (by Behr @ Home Depot). I wish I could tell you the name of the yellow paint but it is a bunch of different paint colors all mixed together so that probably wont help too much :)

Katie - the total height is about 6ft. We spaced each board about 19-21" apart - they are not exact because we tried to aviod the electric outlets to save our selves from extra work. I hope that helps!
About the frames - I actually ended up using "rub'n'buff" in silver leaf to "paint" a few of them. The other ones I purchased at the Dollar Tree and Target.

This is beautiful - thanks for sharing. I've been planning a Board and Batten look for my family room for over six months now. I have three elementary-age kids, so finding the time to do it is insane. You're smart to do it before baby #2 arrives.
My walls are textured - I'm guessing your walls are smooth? Dang. I think I have to actually put the board on the walls. And with that, I'm thinking of staining them instead of painting--did I mention having two active boys?

Saw your project over at Centsational Girl. I like that there's now a height difference between the molding and the table. The room has a more sophisticated look. And great idea to add the picture rail so you can change things out whenever you want. I'm looking to add board and batten to my own home, so I'll pin this as inspiration.

Ohhh my goodness...I just adore your dining room, my friend! I love, love, LOVE your gray, yellow/gold, and white color palette! In fact, I have been contemplating these very same colors for the living area in my home! It's such an inspiration to see your dining room! It's GORGEOUS!!! I loved the height of the moulding before but after seeing the "raised moulding"...I'm just blown away! I love it!!! Raising the height of the moulding really gave your beautiful dining room an entirely different look!

this is prob a very stupid question, but did you nail the wood into the wall or use some sort of adhesive?
Hi, Debby. We used a nail gun to adhere the wood to the wall. Hope that helps!

I love this! We are planning a similar project and I was wondering what materials you used for the picture ledge. Did you also use cove moulding?
