A couple of weeks after giving birth to Chase, I ordered these tablecloths and made them in to curtains for our kitchen.
I still like them a lot - but don't know what to do with them now BECAUSE...
I decided to repaint the kitchen this weekend. I like it so much better. And after taking the curtains down to paint, Christopher and I both agreed it felt more open without them.
He built some shelves out of leftover MDF boards and put them up over the window frames. I love them and can't wait to figure out what else I want to put up there.
We also got our new counters installed last week. And Christopher put up the backsplash. This is the cleanest part of our kitchen counters right now so here is a picture.
Oh yeah. We also started repainting the space above the cabinets. I don't know why. I really don't.
We painted it white. Again. Then we painted a stencil over it. And did not like it.
So now we are left with some craziness going on above the cabinets and are not sure what we are going to do. The stencil was not bad - it's just not what we were going for.
Whew. Today is our day of rest.
Ashlyn has been with my parents this weekend in Gatlinburg. Swimming, riding go-carts, going to Dixie Stampede. She probably likes them more than us. ha. This is why we have had a little more free time the last couple of days.
Once we decide what we are doing over the cabinets, and finish caulking and getting everything cleaned up, I will post some more pictures.
Hope your weekend was wonderful!

I loved the curtains but I adore your new look too! Those blinds with the white trim look chic and the shelves are great! Your kitchen looks amazing. I'm a little jealous! : )
You guys have been busy!!! The changes all look great. Love the new blinds and shelf.
Love Love Love your new look!!!
3 things:
{1} ummm shelves over the windows? Brilliant.
{2} What's the name of your wall color? Thinking of kicking the green color goodbye in my own kitchen for something more neutral and this might be a good option.
{3} How do you get so much done in a weekend with 2 little munchkins! Good teamwork :)
The new backsplash and counters look amazing! I also love the new paint color, shades and shelves! I wish I had your motivation! Awesome work. :)
I do love the shelving above your windows! Don't forget to share pictures again when you get it all figured out. I struggle with knowing how to decorate our breakfast nook. There's not much wall space with all the windows, like yours. Sometimes I think the lack of decoration draws attention to the view out the windows, but other times I think it just looks boring and forgotten.
Fun to see these changes in your kitchen!
I liked your curtains a lot but I'm loving the shelves above with the bamboo shades. It really opens it up!
Sometimes I need the reminder that every window doesn't need a curtain. =)
Oh and I forgot to mention how much I love your backsplash. It looks fabulous!
Wow I love the shelves above the windows...I think I might have to steal the idea from you if that is all alright.
Looking good, Anne! Love the counter tops and the backsplash! Can't wait to see the whole room!
That looks awesome! So creative, good work!!
It's looking great in there! Love the new color and the pictures above the windows.
Ok, now I want to run out and get bamboo blinds for my kitchen too. They aren't a short lived fad right?
Your kitchen looks fab, the counters add such style.
I've been down the love hate stencil road too. But hey, gotta try it to see if you like it. Great job!
I've written a post about kitchens and mentioned yours. I love what you've done to the windows and shelves. Hope you have a great week!
Your kitchen looks brighter now! The new paint made it look refreshing and cool. One more thing, those curtains look beautiful and the blinds give you the option if you'd prefer to see the view outside or not. Oh! The family photos add a personal touch to it. This is an organized and very clean kitchen!

You made the right choice for bamboo blinds, Anne! It really goes very well with your window. Bamboo blinds are eco-friendly and durable, and not only that, they’re also less expensive than normal blinds, and with a tightly woven shade, they let in less sun as compared to other blinds. They’re easier to clean too :)
